H.E PRESIDENT MUSEVENI VISITS HARISS INTERNATIONAL PLANT

It was joy and celebration on 2 nd , November 2023 when His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the Republic of Uganda embarked on a historic visit to the new state-of-the-art headquarters of Hariss International at Tula Kawempe. The president's visit served as evidence of the cooperation between the government and private sector in driving sustainable economic development and prosperity for Uganda. This momentous occasion served as a significant milestone in Hariss International's journey Hariss International continues to play an instrumental role in propelling Uganda's economic trajectory forward. As a key player in the food and beverage industry, Hariss prides in producing over 53 different products that have become household names in Uganda. With a workforce of over 2,000 direct employees, 5,000 indirect employees and supplying over 120,000 small businesses spread across Uganda.

Mr. Yasser Ahmed, chairman board of directors, Hariss International Limited reiterated how the company’s tax revenue has grown from 70 billion Shillings in 2017 to 150 billionshillings in 2023. He further extended his gratitude to the president for his continued support and good gesture for visiting the plant.

President Museveni took a comprehensive tour of the company's state-of-the-art facilities, engaging with the leadership team in dialogue on strategies to improve the economy,facilitate job creation, and improve agribusiness in Uganda.

The president applauded the board of directors for using locally sourced fruits (Mangoes) and sugar which is in line with the BUBU policy. He pointed out that the demand for fruitshas exceeded that of coffee and tea combined, amounting to USD 626 billion. This has made fruits not just consumables but a profitable commodity with economic value, thereby stimulating Uganda’s economic growth and diversity within the agricultural landscape.

The president also advised tax policymakers not to overtax investors, because the government will be able to tax them indirectly through their products.
